Amending the state Constitution to allow the legislature to determine session length (hjr 4210)

%

Washington

2026

This amendment lets lawmakers set how long and when their regular sessions run by passing a law, instead of using fixed day limits. Special sessions would still be limited to 30 days and focused on listed topics. If voters approve, the legislature could meet longer or shorter to handle budgets emergencies, and complex issues. This could speed action and improve flexibility, but may raise costs and make the schedule less predictable when sessions run longer.
