This bill would automatically seal many federal records for arrests that did not lead to conviction, acquittals, and completed simple drug possession or nonviolent marijuana cases. People with other nonviolent federal convictions could ask a court to seal records after 1 year. Sealed records would stay off most background checks, helping people get jobs and housing, while police and certain sensitive employers could still see them.
