This bill would create MIcare, a state-run universal health plan for all Michigan residents. If federal waivers and state funding are approved, it would replace much of today’s mix of insurance with one public system. It covers doctor visits, hospital care, mental health, dental, vision, drugs, long-term care, reproductive and gender-affirming care, with no premiums, copays, or deductibles. The state would set payment rates and likely need new taxes or fees to fund it.
