This bill requires online dating platforms to promptly notify users—within 24 hours—if they’ve messaged an account that is later banned for suspected fraud, unless delayed by provider judgment or law enforcement. Notifications must identify the banned account, indicate when the last message was exchanged, warn about potential scams, advise against sending money or financial information, provide fraud prevention tips, and include customer support contacts. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state officials will enforce the law, which creates a single national standard, shields platforms from liability, and takes effect one year after enactment to help protect users from romance scams.
