About the Organization

The ACLU of Massachusetts is the state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that defends and advances individual rights and civil liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and laws through litigation, lobbying, public education, and community organizing in Massachusetts.

Policy Goals

Works on civil liberties and civil rights issues including criminal justice reform and police accountability, voting rights, free speech and assembly, privacy and surveillance, immigrant and detainee rights, LGBTQ+ equality, reproductive freedom, racial justice, educational equity, and legal defense of individual constitutional rights.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donors and membership contributions, supplemented by foundation grants and philanthropic gifts; does not rely on government funding for its advocacy work.

Affiliates

American Civil Liberties Union (national), ACLU Foundation, ACLU Action Fund, and local legal and civil-rights organizations and advocacy partners in Massachusetts.
