The American Bar Association (ABA) is a national, voluntary professional association of lawyers and law students dedicated to improving the legal profession, advancing the rule of law, promoting access to justice, and setting standards for legal education and professional ethics.
Advocates on matters affecting the legal system and profession, including judicial nominations and court administration, criminal justice and sentencing reform, civil rights and liberties, access to legal services and pro bono programs, standards for legal education and accreditation, professional ethics and discipline, and rules of procedure and evidence.
Primarily funded by member dues and fees, continuing legal education (CLE) and accreditation program revenue, publication and conference income, and grants and donations.
State and local bar associations; ABA Sections and Divisions (e.g., Criminal Justice, Civil Rights, Litigation); the American Bar Foundation and numerous law school and court partners; current and former ABA leaders, many of whom are prominent judges and attorneys.
