About the Organization

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society that mobilizes cancer survivors, caregivers, health professionals, and the public to influence public policy and law aimed at preventing cancer, improving access to care, expanding research funding, and reducing cancer-related disparities.

Policy Goals

Advocates for increased federal and state funding for cancer research (NIH/NCI), expanded access to affordable screening and treatment, insurance and Medicaid/Medicare protections for people with cancer, tobacco control and e-cigarette regulation, prevention and early-detection programs, health equity and disparity reduction, patient-centered care and survivorship supports, and public-health directed cancer prevention policies.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations and member contributions, transfers and support from the American Cancer Society, foundation and corporate grants, and fundraising activities directed to the ACS CAN advocacy mission.

Affiliates

American Cancer Society (parent organization) and its state and local ACS CAN advocacy chapters; coalition partners in cancer and public-health advocacy (state health departments, cancer survivor networks, and other nonprofit health organizations).
