About the Organization

The American Nuclear Society (ANS) is a U.S.-based professional, non‑profit membership organization that advances nuclear science, engineering and technology through technical exchange, standards development, professional education, public information, and policy engagement to support safe and beneficial uses of nuclear technology.

Policy Goals

Advocacy and technical positions related to commercial nuclear power policy, research and development funding, nuclear safety and regulatory frameworks, radioactive waste management and spent fuel policy, workforce development and STEM education, reactor licensing and deployment incentives, and public communication on nuclear technology and radiation protection.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues and individual/corporate memberships, conferences and meetings, publications and advertising, corporate sponsorships and grants, and philanthropic contributions to affiliated foundations.

Affiliates

ANS Foundation, technical divisions and local sections, university nuclear engineering programs, U.S. Department of Energy and national laboratories (e.g., Oak Ridge, Argonne), regulatory stakeholders (e.g., NRC), and industry partners and firms involved in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies (e.g., major reactor vendors and utilities).
