About the Organization

The American Psychological Association (APA) is the largest professional and scientific organization representing psychologists in the United States. Its mission is to advance the creation, communication, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve lives through research, education, clinical practice, public policy, and advocacy.

Policy Goals

Advocates for mental and behavioral health care access and parity, evidence-based research funding, education and licensure standards for psychologists, telehealth and digital mental health, school and community mental health, substance use treatment, ethical standards in practice and research, and criminal justice reforms that incorporate psychological expertise.

Funding

Primarily funded through membership dues, subscriptions and royalties from journals and books, continuing education and conference fees, grants and contracts, and donations.

Affiliates

State and territorial psychological associations, the APA Practice Organization (APAPO), the APA Foundation, APA specialty divisions, and affiliated research and educational initiatives.
