About the Organization

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) is the largest national trade federation for the U.S. trucking industry. Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., ATA represents motor carriers of all sizes and types through a federation of 50 state trucking associations, industry conferences and councils, and member companies. Its mission is to develop, advocate and advance research‑based public policy that promotes highway safety, security, environmental sustainability and the economic viability of the trucking industry.

Policy Goals

Advocates on federal and state transportation and infrastructure funding, highway safety and regulatory standards (including hours‑of‑service and vehicle safety rules), workforce development and driver training, tax and fiscal policy affecting carriers, environmental and emissions policy for heavy vehicles, technology and automation standards, supply chain and freight mobility issues, and industry‑specific regulatory reforms.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from motor carriers, state trucking associations and associate members; revenue from conferences, exhibitions, training programs and publications; sponsorships and fees for services. ATA also supports electoral activity through its affiliated political action committee (Truck PAC), financed by voluntary contributions from individuals at member companies.

Affiliates

A federation of 50 state trucking associations; American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI, ATA's research arm); Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC); National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC); Truckload Carriers Association (TCA); and an affiliated industry PAC (Truck PAC), together with numerous major carrier and supplier member companies.
