The Asian American Scholar Forum (AASF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2021 to advance academic belonging, freedom, and equality for Asian American and immigrant scholars. AASF convenes a national network of scholars and fellows, produces research and legal resources, hosts webinars and public education projects (including Project Pioneer), and engages federal and campus policymakers to address anti-Asian bias, protect academic freedom, and highlight Asian American contributions in science, engineering, medicine and the humanities.
Advocacy to protect academic freedom and due process for researchers; civil rights and anti-discrimination policies affecting Asian American communities; federal research and higher-education funding and science policy; appropriations and support for AAPI programs; policies addressing racial profiling, visa/immigration issues affecting scholars; public history and narrative-change initiatives.
Primarily supported by charitable contributions and foundation grants, supplemented by investment income and individual donations (tax-exempt nonprofit revenue reported on annual Form 990 filings).
Collaborates with federal agencies (including NSF on Project Pioneer), academic societies and civil-rights organizations; membership and leadership include distinguished fellows and leaders (members of the National Academies and senior university leaders); organizational leaders include Yasheng Huang (President), Kai Li (Vice President), Chuan He (Treasurer), and Gisela Perez Kusakawa (Executive Director).
