Balance Our Tax Code is a Washington state advocacy coalition of more than 80 labor unions, community organizations, immigrant-rights groups and advocacy nonprofits that seeks to make the state tax system more progressive and generate new, sustained revenue for affordable housing, education, health care and other public services while reducing the tax burden on low-income and BIPOC households.
Progressive revenue reform and tax justice (wealth and high-earner taxes, capital gains and payroll/excise tax reforms), closing corporate and loophole-based tax preferences, real estate excise taxes for housing, targeted relief and credits for low-income households, racial and economic tax equity, and sustaining funding for public services and workforce supports.
Primarily funded by member organizations and labor affiliates, progressive foundations and grant support, and individual and grassroots donations.
