About the Organization

Black Voters Matter Fund is a southern-based civic power-building organization that seeks to increase political influence and community power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities through voter registration and turnout, grassroots organizing, capacity building, and policy advocacy.

Policy Goals

Voting rights and access (GOTV, registration, opposing restrictive ID and suppression measures, expanded early voting), civic and community capacity building, criminal justice reform and reentry rights, economic and housing justice, health and reproductive justice, leadership development and training for local organizations and candidates; occasional independent expenditures in elections.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations and small-dollar giving, progressive fundraising platforms (e.g., ActBlue), philanthropic grants and partnerships with progressive foundations and donors; also solicits corporate partnerships and grants for programs.

Affiliates

Black Voters Matter Capacity Building Institute; co-founders and leaders LaTosha Brown and Cliff Albright; board members and notable allies such as Tarana Burke; a broad network of local grassroots partner organizations across primarily southern states.
