Callen-Lorde Community Health Center is a New York City–based non-profit community health center that provides comprehensive, culturally competent primary and specialty care to LGBTQ+ people and other underserved communities regardless of ability to pay. Core services include primary care, sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention and treatment, transgender and gender-affirming care, behavioral health, and supportive social services.
Typically supports policies that expand access to LGBTQ+ and transgender-specific health care, increase funding for HIV prevention and treatment and sexual health services, strengthen Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement and community health center funding, protect against discrimination in health care, and promote harm reduction and behavioral health resources for underserved populations.
Mixture of government reimbursements (Medicaid and Medicare), federal and state grants, private philanthropy and foundation grants, and patient fees/insurance payments.
Partners with local and state public health agencies and a range of HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ advocacy and service organizations, as well as regional community health networks and philanthropic funders.
