About the Organization

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) is a nonprofit professional credentialing organization that sets and enforces the requirements for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification in the United States. Its mission is to credential competent and ethical financial planners, uphold CFP® certification as the recognized standard of excellence, and advance the financial planning profession for the benefit of the public.

Policy Goals

Professional standards and ethics regulation for financial planners; fiduciary duty requirements; certification, examination, and continuing education standards; workforce development and diversity in financial planning; regulatory and public policy engagement related to financial advice and consumer protection

Primarily funded through certification and examination fees, annual renewal fees paid by CFP® professionals, and related program revenues
