Cherokee Concerned Citizens is a community advocacy group based in the Cherokee subdivision of Pascagoula, Mississippi. It was formed by local residents to organize around health, environmental, and quality-of-life concerns linked to nearby industrial pollution and to push for stronger protections for the neighborhood.
Environmental justice, air quality monitoring, public health protections, industrial pollution control, land use and relocation/buyout issues, and community right-to-know policies.
Primarily volunteer-based and supported through grants, philanthropic support, and partner assistance for specific projects.
Founded and led by Barbara Weckesser; has worked with Earthjustice, the University of Colorado Boulder, and community environmental organizations.
