About the Organization

The Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (CCHI) is a nonprofit, membership-based consumer advocacy organization founded in 2000 that advances the consumer voice to improve access to affordable, equitable, high-quality health care for all Coloradans. CCHI provides a statewide Consumer Assistance Program that helps people resolve insurance denials, medical billing and hospital financial assistance issues, and uses client experience to inform legislative and regulatory advocacy.

Policy Goals

Health care affordability and cost containment, insurance regulation and consumer protections (rate review, surprise billing, hospital charity care), prescription drug affordability, coverage expansions and access (Medicaid/CHP+, marketplace issues), health equity and language access, and oversight of private health industry practices.

Funding

Primarily foundation grants and philanthropic support, individual donations, membership dues and sponsorships, and program grants from nonprofit partners and public-sector funders.

Affiliates

Works in coalition with state and national consumer and advocacy groups and partners such as AARP, Colorado Access, NextFifty Initiative, Connect for Health Colorado and Families USA; also coordinates with member community organizations and local consumer advocates.
