Communities In Schools of Washington (CISWA) is a statewide nonprofit that works inside K–12 schools to connect students with caring adults and community resources. Using an evidence-based site coordinator model, CISWA surrounds students with integrated supports—academic help, basic needs, mental health services and family connections—with the stated mission to empower students to stay in school and achieve in life.
Advocacy for increased K–12 funding and targeted state investments in integrated student supports, school-based mental and behavioral health services, dropout-prevention and graduation initiatives, policies promoting equity and wraparound social services for students (housing, food security, family supports), and funding/authorization for community schools and site coordinator staffing models.
Mixed revenue model including public funding and contracts (state, local, federal grants), foundation and corporate grants, and private philanthropy and individual donations.
Affiliated with the national Communities In Schools network and a statewide network of local affiliates such as Communities In Schools of Greater King County, Communities In Schools of Tacoma, Whatcom-Skagit, Puyallup, South King County and other regional affiliates across Washington.
