The Foster Family-based Treatment Association (FFTA) is a U.S.-focused nonprofit membership organization that promotes and supports treatment foster care models that place children with trained, therapeutic foster families. FFTA’s mission centers on advancing evidence-based, trauma-informed foster family treatment through training, practice standards, technical assistance, and advocacy to improve outcomes for children and families involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
Advocacy for child welfare and treatment foster care funding and reimbursement (including Medicaid and state allocations), standards and licensing for treatment foster care programs, workforce development and training for therapeutic foster parents and staff, supports for implementation of evidence-based and trauma-informed practices, data reporting and quality assurance requirements, and policies that facilitate community-based alternatives to congregate care.
Primarily membership dues and fees for training and technical assistance, supplemented by grants and contracts from foundations and government agencies and by donations and conference revenue.
State and local child welfare agencies and treatment foster care providers, university and research centers that study foster care interventions, training and consulting partners who implement evidence-based treatment foster care models, and stakeholders in child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
