About the Organization

Gender Justice LA (GJLA) is a grassroots Los Angeles-based nonprofit led by and for transgender, gender non-conforming, two-spirit, Black, Indigenous and trans people of color. The organization combines community organizing, leadership development, direct services and public advocacy to advance racial, gender and economic justice, center low-income TGNC people of color, reduce violence and discrimination, and expand access to gender-affirming health care, housing, employment and safe community spaces. GJLA opened a community center in Los Angeles and runs programs, events, and organizing campaigns focused on local policy change and community resilience.

Policy Goals

Transgender and gender non-conforming rights; anti-discrimination and anti-violence policies; access to gender-affirming health care and culturally competent services; housing and economic justice for low-income TGNC people of color; community safety alternatives and restorative approaches; local civic engagement and leadership development for marginalized gender communities.

Funding

Primarily funded through foundation and philanthropic grants, individual donations and fundraising events, occasional government/local grants and community fundraising campaigns.

Ezak Perez (Executive Director); community partners and coalitions in Los Angeles; local racial justice and LGBTQ organizations and funders (including relationships with community foundations and civic partners); community leaders and artists who have supported GJLA events.
