Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP) is a Silver City, New Mexico–based environmental organization that uses technical, policy and legal expertise to protect community health and natural resources in southwestern New Mexico. GRIP focuses on responsible mining oversight, water and aquifer protection, healthy rivers (including protection of the Gila River), public lands conservation, climate resilience, and community engagement and education.
Advocates for stricter mining regulation and reclamation requirements, stronger groundwater and surface water quality protections, legal and administrative oversight of permits and industry rollbacks, protection of public lands and rivers from extractive and military uses, climate resilience and local sustainable economic development, and public participation in natural resource decision-making.
Primarily funded by individual donations, local fundraising, foundation grants and program grants (including small government or agency grants for restoration and stewardship projects).
