Great Salt Lake Waterkeeper is a water‑protection initiative founded in 2025 to defend and restore the Great Salt Lake. Sponsored by the Utah Rivers Council and affiliated with the global Waterkeeper Alliance, the group advocates to raise lake levels, protect wetlands and migratory bird habitat, reduce toxic dust and protect public health and the regional economy through policy, advocacy, litigation and community organizing.
Advocates for water conservation and allocation reforms, limits on new upstream diversions, wetlands and habitat protection, water transactions to secure instream flows, stronger regulatory enforcement, dust‑mitigation and public health protections, and use of litigation and legislative advocacy to restore lake levels.
Primarily funded through tax‑deductible individual donations and foundation grants, with fiscal sponsorship and operational support from the Utah Rivers Council and network support from the Waterkeeper Alliance.
