Health Care is a Human Right Washington (HCHR-WA) is a statewide grassroots community‑labor coalition, formed in 2014, that organizes member groups, conducts policy research, and advocates to establish universal, publicly financed, high‑quality health care in Washington State on the principle that health care is a human right.
State‑level universal health care and public financing (single‑payer or unified financing approaches), Medicaid expansion and access improvements, health equity and anti‑discrimination measures, protection of safety‑net programs, oversight of hospital consolidation, and labor‑aligned health policy and advocacy.
Primarily supported by sponsor and member organization dues and contributions, allied non‑profit and labor partner funding, occasional grants, and grassroots donations.
Prominent affiliated organizations and partners include Health Care for All‑WA (HCFA‑WA), Whole Washington, Washington Community Action Network (WACAN), Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), American Federation of Teachers Washington, SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, Washington State Labor Council, NAACP Seattle‑King County, and SeaMar Community Health Centers; past leaders include co‑chairs Ronnie Shure and Nathan Rodke.
