About the Organization

Idaho Rivers United is a Boise-based statewide nonprofit founded in the early 1990s that works to protect and restore Idaho’s rivers, watersheds, and native fish. The organization pursues river protection and restoration projects, wild salmon and steelhead recovery, mining and hydropower reform, water policy advocacy, community stewardship programs, and public education to safeguard river health for current and future generations.

Policy Goals

Water policy and instream flow protections, Wild & Scenic River designations, hydropower relicensing and reform, mining regulation and mine permitting oversight, clean water and water quality protections, salmon and steelhead recovery and fisheries management, local river stewardship and urban river protection initiatives

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations and membership dues, foundation and grant support, fundraising events and benefit revenues, and sponsorships or business partnerships

Affiliates

Hydropower Reform Coalition; tribal partners across Idaho; regional and national conservation organizations and coalitions; local business partners (examples include Payette Brewing) and participation in events such as the Wild & Scenic Film Festival on tour
