About the Organization

The International Fuel Tax Association, Inc. (IFTA, Inc.) is an Arizona not-for-profit membership organization that manages and administers the International Fuel Tax Agreement, a cooperative program among U.S. states and Canadian provinces to simplify reporting and collection of motor fuel use taxes for interjurisdictional carriers. IFTA provides policy coordination, training, technical guidance, a tax-rate matrix, events, and administrative support to member jurisdictions and industry stakeholders.

Policy Goals

Administration and harmonization of motor fuel use tax rules, interjurisdictional tax coordination and revenue allocation, compliance and audit standards, reporting and licensing procedures for carriers, treatment of alternative fuels and emerging fuel technologies, and best-practice training and technical guidance for jurisdictions and industry.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from participating jurisdictions, event and training registration fees, subscriber and publication fees, and sponsorships for conferences and workshops.

Affiliates

Member jurisdictions (48 contiguous U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces), state and provincial departments of revenue/transportation, International Registration Plan (IRP) administrators, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), and industry stakeholders such as trucking associations and fuel industry partners.
