About the Organization

The King County Director of Elections is the senior county official responsible for planning, administering, and certifying elections in King County, Washington. The office manages voter registration, ballot production and mail delivery, vote counting and certification, outreach and language‑access services, and election security and audit procedures to ensure accessible, accurate, and lawful elections.

Policy Goals

Implements and advises on policies related to election administration and operations, including voter registration and outreach, vote‑by‑mail and absentee balloting, ballot design and processing, vote counting and post‑election audits, polling place operations and accessibility, election cybersecurity and chain‑of‑custody procedures, procurement of voting equipment, and compliance with state and federal election laws and records requirements.

Funding

Primarily funded through King County budget appropriations and local fee revenue, supplemented by state reimbursements and grants and federal election security and accessibility grants and occasional program‑specific funding.

Affiliates

King County government (County Executive and County Council), Washington State Secretary of State's Office and Elections Division, municipal clerks and city election officials within King County, the Washington State Association of County Auditors, and civic organizations involved in election administration such as the League of Women Voters.
