Legal Counsel for Youth and Children (LCYC) is a Washington state nonprofit that provides direct legal representation and systemic advocacy to protect the interests and safety of young people. LCYC focuses on holistic, trauma-informed services that increase youth access to justice in child welfare, juvenile court, youth and family immigration, and youth homelessness.
Advocacy and litigation supporting youth right to counsel, child welfare reform, juvenile justice reform, legal services for immigrant youth and families, policies to prevent and address youth homelessness, educational access for system-involved youth, and systemic equity and anti-racist reforms affecting young people.
Primarily funded by philanthropic foundations and private grants, supplemented by individual donations and program grants from public and private partners.
Founded with input from TeamChild and Columbia Legal Services; has received support from funders such as Ballmer Group; recognized by the National Association of Counsel for Children; leadership includes Executive Director Rhea Yo.
