About the Organization

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (commonly called LDF) is a national civil‑rights legal organization founded in 1940 that uses strategic litigation, policy advocacy, and public education to advance racial justice, protect voting rights, challenge discrimination, and expand equal opportunity for marginalized communities.

Policy Goals

Voting rights and election law; racial justice and anti‑discrimination; criminal justice reform and sentencing; police accountability; education equity; economic justice and fair housing; enforcement of federal and state civil‑rights laws

Funding

Primarily philanthropic support (foundation grants and major donors), supplemented by individual contributions, fundraising events, and grants
