About the Organization

Living Rivers is a Moab, Utah–based environmental nonprofit founded in 2000 (originally the Glen Canyon Action Network) that advocates for restoration and protection of rivers and canyon ecosystems of the Colorado Plateau. It serves as the Colorado Riverkeeper in the region, works to restore natural flows impaired by dams and diversions, and conducts advocacy and community outreach on threats to river health including mining and uranium‑related activities.

Policy Goals

River restoration and flow restoration, water management and conservation policy, opposition to new or expanded mining/milling that threatens water quality, regulatory advocacy on state and federal water and mining permits, public‑lands and watershed protection, community outreach and legal/administrative participation in resource decisions

Funding

Primarily individual donations, foundation grants and philanthropic support; also accepts project grants and small corporate or organizational contributions

Affiliates

Member of the Waterkeeper Alliance; operates the Uranium Watch project; identifies as Colorado Riverkeeper in the region; partners and allies have included regional conservation groups such as Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance and the New Mexico Environmental Law Center; John Weisheit is a publicly identified leader associated with the organization
