About the Organization

The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida is a federally recognized sovereign Native American tribal government based in South Florida’s Everglades region. The tribe works to preserve Miccosukee culture, language, and traditions; provide social services and economic opportunity for its citizens; and exercise self-governance and jurisdiction over tribal lands and affairs.

Policy Goals

Tribal sovereignty and self-governance; land, water and natural-resource management (including Everglades restoration and wetlands protection); federal Indian policy and funding for health, education and housing; economic development and gaming regulation; cultural preservation and language revitalization.

Funding

Primarily from tribal enterprises (gaming, resort and hospitality operations), tourism and related business revenue, supplemented by federal grants, contracts, and program funding.

Affiliates

Miccosukee Tribal Council; Miccosukee Resort & Gaming; Miccosukee Indian Village; Miccosukee Development Corporation; partnerships with federal agencies such as the Bureau of Indian Affairs and regional conservation organizations.
