The Michigan Association of Conservation Districts (MACD) is a nonprofit organization that represents and supports Michigan’s 75 local conservation districts. Its mission is to strengthen conservation districts through leadership, information, and representation at the state level, advancing science-based stewardship of Michigan’s natural resources in partnership with landowners, farmers, and local communities.
MACD advocates for state and federal funding for local conservation districts, supports implementation of Farm Bill conservation programs, and promotes policies related to soil health, water quality, land stewardship, invasive species management, and sustainable agriculture. The organization engages in legislative advocacy to secure operational funding and improve conservation program delivery across Michigan.
Primary funding comes from state appropriations, grants, program support, and contributions associated with conservation district activities, along with partnerships involving local, state, and federal agencies.
Affiliates include Michigan’s 75 local conservation districts, the Conservation District Employees of Michigan, the National Association of Conservation Districts, and partnerships with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
