The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that represents nearly 3,000 local conservation districts and approximately 17,000 elected supervisors nationwide. It serves as the national voice for locally led conservation efforts, promoting the responsible management and conservation of natural resources on private and public lands through grassroots advocacy, education, partnerships, and support for voluntary, incentive-based conservation programs.
NACD advocates for federal and state policies that support voluntary, locally led natural resource conservation programs, including soil health, water quality, watershed management, agricultural conservation, forestry, wildlife habitat, and funding for conservation technical assistance and Farm Bill conservation programs.
Primarily funded through voluntary contributions and membership dues from member conservation districts and state associations, along with grants and cooperative agreements.
Affiliated with nearly 3,000 local conservation districts, state conservation district associations, and works closely with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service and other federal and state natural resource agencies.
