Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest professional membership organization of social workers in the United States. The association works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, establish and maintain professional standards including the NASW Code of Ethics, and advance sound social policies that promote social justice and improve the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
NASW advocates for legislation and regulations related to social justice, mental and behavioral health access, child welfare, health care reform, racial equity, LGBTQ+ rights, poverty reduction, workforce development, professional licensure standards, and reimbursement and practice protections for social workers.
Primarily funded through membership dues, conference and continuing education fees, publication sales, foundation contributions, grants, and affiliated insurance and professional services programs.
NASW Foundation, NASW Assurance Services (Preferra Insurance Company), state NASW chapters, and partnerships with schools of social work and allied professional organizations.
