The National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and advancing the quality of life for Black children and families. Founded in 1970, NBCDI focuses on education, health, family engagement, and child welfare, advocating for policies and practices that promote equity and positive outcomes for Black children from birth through young adulthood.
NBCDI typically pursues legislative policies related to early childhood education, K-12 education equity, child health and wellness, family engagement, juvenile justice reform, child welfare, and racial equity in public systems affecting children and families.
NBCDI is primarily funded through foundation grants, corporate partnerships, individual donations, and government grants.
NBCDI operates a national network of local affiliates across the United States and collaborates with education advocates, child development experts, philanthropic foundations, and community-based organizations focused on advancing outcomes for Black children.
