About the Organization

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is a woman-led 501(c)(3) non-profit civil and human rights organization that advocates to eliminate hate, discrimination, and racism toward Latino and other marginalized communities by increasing Latino visibility in media, combating online hate and disinformation, and advancing digital equity and affordable access to communications.

Policy Goals

Media representation and diversity in entertainment and news; communications and broadband policy (net neutrality, Lifeline, Affordable Connectivity Program); closing the digital divide and digital equity; platform accountability for online hate and disinformation; media ownership limits and anti-consolidation efforts; consumer privacy and access to information

Funding

Primarily philanthropic grants and foundation support, supplemented by individual donations, event sponsorships and fundraising (e.g., gala/events)

Affiliates

National Latino Media Council (secretariat role) and allied Latino civil-rights and media organizations such as MALDEF, LULAC, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, HACU and NALAC; prominent industry supporters and honorees have included Jorge Ramos, Eva Longoria and Edward James Olmos
