The National Sheriffs’ Association is a nonprofit professional association founded in 1940 that represents sheriffs, deputies, and other public safety professionals. Its mission is to support and protect the Office of Sheriff through law enforcement education, training, informational resources, and advocacy on criminal justice and homeland security issues.
Typically supports law enforcement, public safety, jail and court security, homeland security, border security, grants and funding for sheriff’s offices, criminal justice policy, and issues affecting sheriffs’ authority and operations.
Primarily funded through membership dues, conferences and training, sponsorships and corporate partnerships, grants, contracts, and donations.
State sheriffs’ associations, local sheriffs’ offices, deputies, and affiliated law enforcement and public safety professionals; leadership includes elected sheriffs serving in association offices and committees.
