The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that assists taxpayers in resolving problems with the IRS and recommends administrative and legislative changes to protect taxpayer rights. Led by the National Taxpayer Advocate, TAS works to ensure that taxpayers are treated fairly and understand their rights under the tax code.
