About the Organization

The NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is the National Rifle Association’s dedicated lobbying and grassroots advocacy arm, founded in 1975 to promote and defend Second Amendment rights before federal, state, and local legislatures and to mobilize NRA members and supporters on firearms policy and related issues.

Policy Goals

Advocates for expansive gun rights and self-defense laws, state preemption of local firearm regulation, concealed-carry and permitless-carry measures, opposition to restrictive gun-control legislation (including many bans and limits on firearms and ammunition), and political support for pro-Second Amendment candidates and nominees

Funding

Primarily funded by NRA member dues and individual contributions, direct fundraising and online donations, event and merchandise revenue, and financial support coordinated through affiliated political and nonprofit entities

National Rifle Association (NRA), NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF), NRA Foundation, NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund, NRA Freedom Action Foundation; prominent figures associated with the organization include longtime NRA leadership such as Wayne LaPierre and past and recent NRA-ILA directors
