The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is the national trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting, and recreational shooting industry in the United States. Founded in 1961, its mission is to promote, protect, and preserve hunting and the shooting sports, advance industry growth, and support safe and responsible firearms ownership through education, safety initiatives, and advocacy. NSSF represents thousands of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, shooting ranges, and related businesses nationwide and organizes the annual SHOT Show trade exhibition.
NSSF advocates for Second Amendment rights, opposes restrictive gun control measures, supports industry-friendly firearms and ammunition regulations, promotes liability protections for manufacturers and dealers, advances hunting and conservation policy, and works on federal and state legislation affecting firearm commerce, excise taxes, and shooting range development.
Primarily funded through membership dues from firearms and ammunition manufacturers, distributors, retailers, shooting ranges, and industry partners, as well as revenue from trade events such as the SHOT Show.
Works closely with firearms manufacturers and retailers nationwide and collaborates with organizations such as the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI); led by President and CEO Joseph Bartozzi.
