OCA–Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national, member-driven civil rights and advocacy nonprofit founded in 1973 (originally the Organization of Chinese Americans). The group works to advance the social, political, and economic well‑being of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities through advocacy, education, leadership development, community organizing, and monitoring of legislation and public policy.
Advocacy for civil rights and anti-discrimination measures, voting rights and civic participation, hate-crime prevention and public safety, equitable education and workforce access, immigration and immigrant protections, federal and state policy monitoring affecting AAPI communities, leadership development and youth civic engagement
Primarily funded by individual donations and membership dues, foundation grants, program and event revenue, and corporate sponsorships and partnerships
Network of state and local OCA chapters and affiliates; has partnered with other AAPI organizations such as the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL); notable supporters and alumni have included Congresswoman Judy Chu, former Congressman Mike Honda, and AAPI civil rights advocates such as Helen Zia
