PFLAG (originally Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is a national grassroots nonprofit that supports, educates, and advocates for LGBTQ+ people, their families, and allies. Founded in 1973, PFLAG maintains a network of local chapters offering peer support, provides educational resources for families and institutions, and engages in public education and advocacy to advance LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion.
Typically pursues policies promoting nondiscrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, protections for transgender youth including access to gender-affirming care, inclusive K–12 education and anti-bullying measures, bans on conversion therapy for minors, family-support services, and broader LGBTQ+ civil rights and health equity initiatives.
Primarily funded by individual donations and membership dues, supplemented by philanthropic grants, corporate and foundation support, and local chapter fundraising and events.
