About the Organization

Piedmont Environmental Council is a regional nonprofit organization that works to protect and restore the lands, waters, and rural and historic character of Virginia’s Piedmont through land conservation, stewardship, planning and policy advocacy, and community engagement.

Policy Goals

Land conservation and conservation easements; farmland and rural economic viability; open-space and scenic resource protection; smart growth and compact development; watershed and water-quality protection; historic-preservation and landscape stewardship; local zoning, transportation, and comprehensive planning; climate resilience and natural resource management.

Funding

Primarily member and individual donations and philanthropic foundation grants, supplemented by government conservation grants, program fees and revenue from conservation transactions.

Virginia Outdoors Foundation, Land Trust Alliance, The Nature Conservancy (Virginia), Trust for Public Land, Virginia Conservation Network, local county governments and community partners
