QLaw Association (QLaw) is the LGBTQ+ bar association for the State of Washington. A voluntary membership organization of lawyers, judges, law students, and legal professionals, QLaw works to advance diversity and equality in the legal profession and the courts, provide professional development and networking, educate the public and legal community about legal issues affecting LGBTQ+ people, and improve access to justice for LGBTQ+ Washingtonians.
Advocacy for LGBTQ+ civil rights and anti-discrimination laws, promotion of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and judiciary, judicial candidate evaluation and ratings, access-to-justice initiatives for LGBTQ+ communities, CLEs and legal education on LGBTQ+ legal issues, support for law student scholarships and mentorship programs.
Primarily funded by membership dues, event and banquet sponsorships, continuing legal education (CLE) fees, donations, and occasional grants and fundraising for affiliated foundation work.
QLaw Foundation (sibling 501(c)(3) that provides legal assistance and advocacy), National LGBT Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association, founding leaders Michael Heath and Beth Barrett Bloom, and sponsoring law firms and local legal organizations (e.g., regional firms that sponsor QLaw events).
