The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft is a Washington, D.C.–based nonpartisan foreign policy think tank, founded in 2019 to promote restraint in U.S. foreign policy and to prioritize diplomacy, de‑escalation, and alternatives to prolonged military intervention.
Advocates diplomacy-first foreign policy, military restraint and reduced U.S. involvement in overseas 'endless wars', restraint on regime‑change operations, support for arms control and negotiated conflict resolution, and rethinking sanctions and defense commitments to emphasize national interest and risk avoidance.
Primarily funded by philanthropic foundations and individual donors; early and ongoing support has come from a mix of progressive and libertarian foundations and private philanthropists (for example, grants from foundations such as the Open Society Foundations, the Charles Koch Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Ford Foundation and similar donors).
Co‑founders and senior figures have included Andrew Bacevich, Trita Parsi, Suzanne DiMaggio and Stephen Wertheim; the institute maintains a network of resident and non‑resident fellows and publishes the Responsible Statecraft platform.
