About the Organization

Rock Creek Alliance is a small nonprofit founded in 1996 and based in Sandpoint, Idaho, that works in western Montana and northern Idaho to protect water quality in the Clark Fork–Pend Oreille watershed and to defend the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness and Lake Pend Oreille from proposed hard-rock mining impacts, primarily the proposed Rock Creek Mine. The organization conducts public education and outreach, organizes community action, and supports legal challenges to state and federal permits.

Policy Goals

Watershed and water-quality protection, wilderness and public-land conservation, opposition to new hard-rock mining permits, participation in state and federal permitting and review processes, litigation and administrative challenges to permits, community outreach and environmental education

Funding

Primarily individual donations and membership contributions, supplemented by small foundation grants and fundraising events
