Description: The Small County Coalition is a nonpartisan, statewide alliance of Florida county commissioners from small and rural counties. Its mission is to represent the fiscal and policy interests of counties with smaller populations at the state level, provide legislative briefings and training, and advocate for state funding, statutory flexibility, and intergovernmental attention to rural issues. Type: Nonprofit membership association / statewide coalition of county commissions Policies: State budget and appropriations for county projects, local government finance and property tax issues, rural infrastructure and transportation, emergency management and disaster recovery, public health and behavioral health access in rural areas, land use and environmental management affecting small counties, workforce and economic development, and intergovernmental relations with state agencies and the Legislature. Funding: Primarily funded by membership dues and contributions from participating county governments, plus event registration fees, sponsorships, and occasional grants or program-specific funding. Affiliates: Works closely with the Florida Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties; membership is composed of county commissions such as Bradford, Flagler, Monroe and Charlotte; leadership is drawn from elected county commissioners (e.g., current officers include county commissioners serving as chair and vice chair).
