The Mayor's Youth Commission of Tacoma (MYCT) is a youth-led, project-based advisory body established by Tacoma City Council resolution in December 2019 to give middle and high school students a formal platform to engage with local government, develop civic skills, and advise the Mayor and City Council on policies affecting youth and their communities.
Youth civic engagement and leadership development, K-12 education outcomes and school partnerships, student mental and social health, juvenile justice and public safety issues, environmental and climate advocacy, arts and culture access for youth, and youth-centered transportation and street safety policies.
Primarily supported and staffed by the City of Tacoma (City Manager's Office) through municipal funds and city staff time; may also receive in-kind support from local partner organizations and occasional grants or sponsorships.
City of Tacoma (Mayor's Office and City Manager's Office), Tacoma City Council, Tacoma Public Schools, Boys & Girls Club (local chapters) and other community youth-serving organizations; city staff liaison (City Manager's Office) and elected Commission leadership.
