A grassroots, nonpartisan community coalition formed in 2014 to defend quality of life, natural resources, rural landscapes, and historic sites in Prince William County. Originally organized to oppose large overhead transmission lines proposed to serve data centers, the group engages residents, homeowner associations, businesses, and preservation organizations to influence local land use and infrastructure decisions.
Local land use and zoning decisions; opposition to large-scale data center rezonings and industrial sprawl; infrastructure siting (transmission lines, substations, and related utility projects); environmental protection (groundwater, tree cover, wildlife habitat); historic preservation and protection of battlefield and heritage sites; engagement with state utility regulation and county planning processes.
Primarily small-dollar donations, local fundraising and volunteer support; operates with volunteer leadership and relies on community contributions rather than major corporate or foundation funding; donations to a 501(c)(4) are not tax-deductible.
Works with regional and national preservation and environmental groups such as the Piedmont Environmental Council, National Parks Conservation Association, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation Virginia (Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities), and local preservation advocates; local leaders include Executive Director Elena Schlossberg and volunteer directors.
