The Freedom Index is a legislative scorecard and public-information project produced by the John Birch Society that rates elected officials and legislation according to the Society's principles of limited government, constitutional originalism, national sovereignty, and opposition to globalist institutions. The John Birch Society, founded in 1958, is a conservative grassroots organization that describes its mission as educating Americans about what it views as threats from collectivist or internationalist policies and promoting patriotism and constitutional government.
Advocacy for limited federal government and states' rights, strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, opposition to international institutions and treaties perceived to reduce U.S. sovereignty, anti-communism/anti-socialism, support for individual liberties including Second Amendment rights, restrictive immigration and anti-globalist positions, and opposition to expanded federal spending and taxation.
Primarily funded through private donations and membership dues to the John Birch Society, sales of the Society's publications and educational materials, and other private contributions; does not rely on government funding.
