About the Organization

The Sikh Coalition is a U.S.-based civil rights organization founded after September 11, 2001 that works to protect and advance the rights of Sikh Americans through legal representation, policy advocacy, public education, community empowerment, and leadership development. It provides legal assistance in hate- and discrimination-related cases, conducts outreach and training, and advocates for state and federal reforms to reduce religious discrimination and bias.

Policy Goals

Advocacy on anti-hate and anti-discrimination laws, religious accommodation in education and workplaces, law enforcement training and bias reduction, school bullying prevention and curriculum inclusion, civil rights enforcement, surveillance and national security policy oversight as it affects religious minorities, and voting and civic participation protections for Sikh and South Asian communities

Primarily funded by philanthropic foundations, individual donors and community fundraising, with supplementary grants and fee-for-service legal support in select cases
